The Kitogani Project

Kitogani Teachers’ Centre is at the heart of improving the quality of teaching and learning in schools in the southern district of Unjuga. Since its foundation in 1996, work by local volunteers has seen it grow from a single building serving 8206 students to several buildings and a laboratory, responsible for educating 18332 students.

The Centre has no on-site running water - the system built more than three decades ago no longer functions - and it is struggling to maintain sanitary conditions for the students. Neither can it offer the support it would wish to villagers or the local primary school responsible for 420 pupils.

The committee at the Teacher Centre has appointed Haji Simba Hassan as project manager and he is launching an appeal to raise funds to secure a permanent well, a gravity water storage tank and complete refurbishment of the existing basic toilets, including providing access for those with a disability. Members of the local community will help with construction but simply don’t have the money to buy the equipment.

To get running water to the Centre and refurbish existing toilets will cost just under 19,292,910.00 Tsh or £6,734.00. This will be raised in stages and photos of each part of the installation will be posted online to assure donors the money is being well spent.

The difference it will make to the future health and well being of the entire community is incalculable.
